Hillenmeyer has also provided hundreds of job opportunities over the years as one of the area’s most esteemed employers. More than 50 father-and-son pairs have worked at Hillenmeyer together, in addition to brothers, cousins and spouses who also worked for the company.
“The Hillenmeyer family has shared a strong bond for many years,” said Stephen Hillenmeyer. “Not only within our family, but also with our employees and their families. We grew up together. Some of our employees worked at Hillenmeyer for more than 50 years and have wonderful memories of my father, my uncles and my grandfather.”
Now the sole owner, Stephen Hillenmeyer has shifted the company’s focus to lawn care and maintenance. He also bought two franchises, Weed Man Lawn Care and The Mosquito Authority, to expand Hillenmeyer’s services.
“Every generation has left its mark on the family business, changing its course for success in the future,” said Stephen Hillenmeyer. “During my time, we’ve faced unprecedented competition. My legacy will be our decision to move to a recurring business model that has better positioned the company for long-term growth.”
He has recruited his two sons, Chase and Seth Hillenmeyer, to lead the business in the next generation of ownership.
“I feel fortunate to have two sons who enjoy this business as much as I do,” said Stephen Hillenmeyer. “It was never a given that they would join the family business. They had an opportunity to pursue other careers, and we went through a formal interview and negotiation process with both of them. But now that they’re here, I can’t imagine it any other way.”
